LIFE

Skelm came down from Sydney for a few days to help me out with fixing my computers and have a few nights out in Canberra. On Wednesday night we went to Kingsley's Steakhouse which was pretty good even though i have eaten there before, the Rib-Eye was awesome. Afterwards caught up with B&G boys at Transit Trivia, which they have been completely running over since its inception. As usual, with a tiny bit of my input, they won again. We hung around having shots and pints for while and ended up getting pretty smashed.

Formatted the computer and got it back up to speed for playing poker the next day. Went to Benchmark Wine Bar for dinner and then to ANU bar to see Bluejuice with Liz and her friends. Had beers instead of watching the supporting bands but Bluejuice were pretty good playing for about an hour and playing all their major singles.

On Friday night it was my sisters 21st. We had a small sit down meal at Tongue & Groove with her closest friends, downing  a few bottles of wine and a bunch of beer along the way. I got her a Thomas Sabo leaf ring which I'm pretty sure she liked, definitely her style. After we went to the Labour club for some more drinks, Liz and I bailed around 1 as i was super wrecked from the previous nights.

RESTAURANT

Benchmark Wine Bar (European, Wine)

For starters we got the charcuterie assortment all of which were awesome especially the pate and the spiced lamb sausage and we both ordered the eye fillet steak as the main though i kinda wish i ordered the duck instead because we had steak the night before.

I ordered us a bottle of the Artadi Rijoa, which obviously was great. Definitely a good dining experience, waitstaff were attentive and also good looking, very comfortable atmosphere and the food and wine were delicious. A bit on the pricey side, split starter, main and shared bottle of wine for ~$90pp, well worth it though.

POKER

haha, ah well not a whole bunch going on on that front, i haven't really been playing much, making money though so i spose all that is fine. Did a couple of sweat sessions with skelm as a thanks for fixing my computer, I'm pretty sure we made some progress, although ran pretty bad at midstakes, hopefully it helped out a bit.

HOT CHICK

When i got sick i started watching Season 1 of Gossip Girl to pass the time. Its super addictive and quite a good show, Ive almost caught up. Blake Lively plays Serena Van Der Woodsen one of the main characters.

LIFE

This month started terribly. I got completely destroyed by a cold spent longer than i can remember in bed and all of a sudden the 1st week of April was over. After getting over the cold i went to some pre-drinks at the boys house we end up doing a bit of a tour of the town then ended up at ICBM, shit went down.

Basically Steve and I went to grab some drinks, some guys in the corner were trying to start shit, we told them to fuck off, told the bouncers and moved away to drink our drinks. After finishing I went to get another round and when i turned around the same guys  had surrounded Steve and i saw one king hit him. I ran over and managed to smack him in the face, while at the same time getting hit in the eye before the bouncers dragged me out, which in its self is bs considering it was quite obvious from previous information that it was them that started the fight. Not really sure how the fight ended, i know Steve copped a broken nose and a couple of his mates jumped in as well but i think that I'm a little underwhelmed at how few people got their hands dirty. Although fighting is totally gay and retarded, always back up a mate if his in shit even if its obvious your going to get your ass kicked.

I also went and met Liz's new house mates for the 1st time. We sat around, had a few drinks and an incredibly casual game of poker. I did well, getting super lucky to double up with 22 v AK against Sarah and then making a couple of hands on the turn to end up HU with Liz, the undefeated champion of all forms of poker. I started HU with 95%+ of the 6-7k chips in play and lost every single all in after that which was sick cause i never had a high card lower than a King. Nice to know that there is a greater luck box in this universe. With our luck boxes combined I'm sure we will have a perfect life together, /sappy shit. Pity we cant pull a date day to save our lives. The last 4 times Ive taken a day off so we could hang out and go on a proper date, something has come up, hopefully there is some run good for this in our future.

RESTAURANT

On Thursday before the bar fight shenanigans Liz and I walked down Lonsdale St and went to Italian & Sons

Italian & Sons (Italian, obv)

is

Awesome. Totally wrapped in this restaurant. The decor, although hyper simple, with blackboard walls, and maybe even slightly crowded instantly creates a homely feel. The wait staff are super friendly, great with helping with your meal selections and also good with the wine menu which is nice when u have no idea what wine will go with your meal.

The way they do their menu is that they have 6-8 pizza selections 6ish pasta selections plus antipasto, cheese platters and one main per day, named Monday to Sunday for easy reference. They also have  random specials every night that the wait staff inform you of.

I ordered the Lamb Ragu with a Cavatelli type pasta and Liz ordered a Veal Marsala. Mine was absolutely Delicious and amazing def order again except it was a special. Liz ordered a veal Marsala which was prepared with white wine and mushrooms in the sauce. Ive never had anything like it and I'm proud that Liz not only tried it but also ate it all, not sure if she enjoyed it or just put on the brave face, shes usually a super basic chicken or fish girl. It was amazingly rich with lots of different flavours from an opening light white wine freshness into a burnt caramel mixed with the veal with a very heavy mushroom aftertaste. My Tempranillo blend was very nice as was the white that Liz chose.

Highly recommend going there and i can see myself eating there more in the future and trying out their different day to day mains. ~$50 for a split entree + main + wine.

POKER

With the cold and everything i haven't really been playing. Still up a decent amount due to some table starting run good. Did some flips with skelm, newmanmi, zachvac and koadyawn on firday night in which i ran super hot, managing to tip my PTR over into the redzone. Otherwise really nothing.
