We go into Le Teich and dropped our bags at Auntie Katy's before picking up Bilitis from school. She showed us around and then we went for a drive/wander around Arcachon checking out the massive 18th century beach retreats of the rich and famous and the amazing views. We went and saw an oyster farmer who told us (through translation) all about the trade, interesting but completely pointless as I'm allergic to seafood. Katy made us an amazing lunch with salad, bread, cheese, soup and this french pizza type thing, it was amazing eating real food. That night we went into Bordeaux and met up with one of Billy's friends, Clementine, and her friend, Caroline. We went to a cafe and got some wine and chatted a bit. At this point of the night the conversation was mostly french and billy translating bits and pieces for us but as the night wore on Clementine spoke more and more English and all the conversation became English, which was good though i felt bad for Caroline as I'm pretty sure she spoke little to no English. We went to a weird Uni type bar which played a really random mix of music, from System of a Down to 70's French pop. Clementine ordered us a round of shots and told us to drink though she wouldn't tell us what they were. I wasn't worried at all, she is just a little french girl who doesn't really drink or party and earlier in the night admitted that her 1st glass of wine made her tipsy. How wrong i was, we did our shots while she faked doing hers and sat back to laugh at us. The shot was something like really really bad tequila with Tabasco sauce and chilli water, easily one of the grossest shots I've done in my life including all the mystery shots we used to do at B&G. After that i downed a bunch of beers to settle my stomach. We then headed to this bar called Byron Bay it was pretty rubbish but damn there were alot of loose chicks there. It was absolutely insane it was like every single girl in there had come out with her slut game face on and was determined to go home with someone by the end of the night. So yeah check it out if your in Bordeaux and looking for an easy lay, the only competition you'll have is retardedly drunk British slobs and super skeezy french rejects, game over. I had alot of fun it was great to talk to some intelligent locals and not a bunch of backpackers doing the same old shit. One of the days we failed on going on a bike ride to the Bird park, Tree's hasn't ridden a bike for almost 15 years and before we even got a kilometer into our journey she stacked it, had a bit of a cry while i pissed myself laughing and then we headed back. Another day we walked up the biggest sand dune in Europe, was pretty awesome never done anything like it. Billy and i ran down the side of it which was heaps of fun, felt like you were an astronaut because of how steep it was the length between your steps were huge but you got a soft foot fall into the sand. We also did a wander around Bordeaux checking out the obligatory tourist sights like the big fountain monument, theatre and some churches while doing some gift shopping to say thank you to Katy and Bilitis for having us for the week.
Billys grandparents came around for her bday and we had some amazing crepes then they kindly drove us to Bordeaux so we could hang out with Billys friends for the night. Unfortunately for some reason i pulled a massive 15yo and passed out/spewed somewhere around 11. I have a complete blank from around 10pm when we were just chilling chatting on the couch till 10am the next day when i found my self face down in the toilet hearing Trees yelling for someone to call an ambulance. Apparently in the morning i had passed out while walking to the bathroom onto their table and then passed out again less then 10 steps later while Trees was taking me to the bathroom and was out cold for a few minutes. Really not sure how this happened as no one remembers me drinking much but the options/combinations of factors are we ate no dinner, i had an energy drink (i think i may be allergic going on past reactions), my body/liver just packed it in and said fuck this and i could have possibly just sculled a solid amount of a bottle of vodka. Sorry to everyone who i made a dick of myself around, pretty much inexcusable. Somehow made it to to flight to London that afternoon without having to visit a doctor. FOOD
Katy has been stuffing us with some of the best food I've ever eaten, which is so good cause doing the whole backpacking thing with Trees we haven't really been able to eat any of the local delicacies outside of morocco, due to price and the fact that for some strange reason she doesn't want to eat things like escargot and foie gras etc. One night we had Racklefort (sp? not the blue sheeps milk cheese), which is kinda like a fondue thing. You have potatoes and all different types of ham and some special types of cheese. You put the cheese into a little spade sort of thing and put them into the heater and then chuck some ham on to the hot plate. Then when they are melted and cooked you put them on the potato and eat. Really really simple but super cheesy and delicious, also becomes quite fun after a few bottles of red wine. Katy also cooked us an amazing Beouf Borguignon, a traditional french potato bake kinda thing and i got to try alot of types of red wine, chocolate, cheese and aperitifs, so so so good. Would defiantly get fat incredibly quickly if i lived in France. HOT CHICK
