By the time Paris came around i was pretty sick of backpacking and the whole people thing and didn't bother partying or rly even hanging out with anyone in the hostel. There is so much shit to do in Paris so i focused on that instead of the backpacker scene.

Museums

Musee d'Orsay -  I missed this last time i was in Paris, so it was number 1 on my list of priorities this time round. Unfortunately atm they are refurbishing the floor which usually holds the collection of Impressionist paintings so only a temporary area was set up to hold them. To add to this disappointment most of the Van Gogh and Gauguin collection are currently on tour, including Starry Night.
Apart from all of this i still absolutely loved the Musee d'Orsay and i would probably put it in my top 3 Museums (the others being the Uffizi in Florence and the Hermitage in St Petersburg). Seeing the works of Pissaro, Sicily, Renoir, and Monet en masse for the first time was amazing, along with others that i have seen large collections of previously. I was blown away by Pissaro's works and i wish i could just buy them all.

The Louvre - I got one of the little self tour audio guide things and spent 6 or so hours wandering around doing the French, Italian and Masterpieces tours. After the sculpture section of the french tour, which was the very start, and the Napoleonic chambers, also near the beginning, i found it a little boring and was pretty happy to get onto the Italian tour.
The highlight of this tour for me was the collection of around 5 Caravaggio paintings close to the end of the tour. Since being educated a little by Katie many years ago he has slowly become one of my favourite painters. His expression of themes, even when on commission, coupled with the stark contrasts created by his use of Nocturne style make for incredibly fascinating paintings that stand out from the overwhelming amount of paintings on display at the Louvre. I also really enjoyed the super massive paintings that the Louvre holds, The Wedding at Cana, The Coronation of Napoleon and the Alexander the Great series. The detail included in these works of wondrous proportion is breathtaking.
I still don't get the Mona Lisa, I've heard and read a bunch about it and its underlying themes and geometric proportions but it still doesn't wow me when i see it and i find almost every other painting in its gallery more interesting. Though it is hard to get psyched about a small painting that u cant get close to and has a million people around it all the time. The highlight of the masterpieces tour is defiantly the Winged Victory of Samothrace, the Venus De Milo is pretty cool but the Winged Victory of Samothrace kicks its ass.

L'Armee - On advice from Jake i scoped this place out. Its way way bigger than i thought and i would defiantly recommend 3-5 hours to see it in its entirety comfortably. Napoleons tomb and the Church around it was pretty sweet and the free audio guide tour for it was nice. The Charles De Gaulle wing would've been sweet if my audio guide thingy worked properly and i had time to stand around listening to it.
The rest looked pretty cool but as i didn't do any form of history in high school and know nothing about Napoleonic/French history i was a little bored and just looked and the cool shiny guns and armour. I will defiantly check this museum out again later in life after i have done some reading on the topic.

Monuments

Palace of Versailles - Though it pretty much holds a museum i figured being a Palace and all it fit in this category. The Museum wasn't that great, it was cool to see the War Room, Peace Room and Hall of Mirrors which were all pretty sick but all the other rooms, decorations and paintings seemed pretty standard compared to other places I've been before. The gardens are huge and it was great to have Seb, accompanied by Heidi, along to give us a bit of a history lesson on when, how and why they were built. The mile long stretch of water is pretty insane and i will probably make the trip out there again to see the elaborate gardens in all their glory in Spring/Summer.
Thanks to Heidi and Seb for making it great day trip out there.

v

Notre Dame Cathedral - lol so we got there and just wanted to go inside to see the Rose window and wander around quickly. We saw the line and just hopped in, 40 minutes later as we ascended the huge staircase we realised we had lined up to climb the bell tower, at least the gargoyles at the top were cool.

nd

Arc Du Triumph -  Climbed to the top for the best view of Paris.

Champs Elysees - Kinda shitty in winter with there being no leaves or flowers and especially when its so cold the fountains between the Obelisque and the Louvre are iced over.

c

Eiffel Tower - meh its big, whatevs

e

Centre Pompidou - In the monuments section as i didn't go inside, not a huge fan of Modern art. Silly contemporary architecture.

cp

Montmartre/Sacre Coeur - In the same boat as Jake here, not a huge fan of walking around ghettos. Sacre Cour is a great piece of architecture to look at, though its tough to appreciate it while being hassles by niggas trying to tie coloured bits of string around your fingers/wrist and take your money while threatening to beat your mouly ass for telling them to fuck off.

sc

Aviation Club - lol just for some poker content, but i didn't realise this was on the Champs Elysees. Defiantly going to play there next time I'm in Paris.
